Glen Innes is a town and shire steeped in history and is strategically located at the intersection of the New England & Gwydir Highways. An easy four hour drive from Brisbane, two hours from Grafton and seven hours from Sydney, Glen Innes and its' surrounding areas form the State's most prolific sapphire region. Reddestone Sapphires are renowned as one of the finest blue sapphires in the World. Other gems which lure the fossickers to the area include topaz, quartz, crystals and emeralds.
