Festival Town

Land of the Beardies: European settlement in the district dates from the late 1830s, when the first land was settled at Stonehenge. For a few years before that, the country was only known to a few stockmen, two of whom, Duval and Chandler, were known as "the Beardies" . People looking for the land in the area were advised to seek out the Beardies for information. Their name persists in the Beardy Plains, Beardy Waters and of course the Beardy Festival, which is Glen Innes' own annual celebrations held in November.

Minerama: Glen Innes is building a fine reputation with its annual gem and mineral show, which is held at the Glen Innes and District Services Club.
