Murray Cod, fine sport fishing

Some Helpful Hints for Anglers

  • Bring a sturdy baitcasting/spin outfit loaded with 4-8 kg line as this is sufficient for enjoying the fine sportfishing qualities of the Murray Cod.
  • A good selection of deep and extra deep diving lures is a must. Surface lures also work well during summer, as do large spinnerbait style lures.
  • The New England Murray Cod is a strong, solid fighting fish, especially around the boulders of the "Gorge Country". We recommend that lures are fitted with heavy duty, barbless, treble hooks.
  • Always take care when handling the Murray Cod, as our stocks are precious. A "Catch & Release" policy applies to all Murray Cod caught at The Willows on the Severn River.
