Our new lodge is part of the McRory Fishery facility:
Fishing TechniquesThe "Woolly Bugger" is the most versatile streamer fly that any angler can have in their box of tricks. This fly can represent anything form a damsel fly nymph to a baitfish, or even a small cray-bob. By varying your retrieve rate, fishing depth and fly colour, you can run through the options until you find something that works. The trout at Dunmore Trout Waters will take just about any time during the normal trout season. Some other flies that work well are various sub-surface nymphs and small dry flies, like the Elkhair Caddis, especially around summer and autumn afternoons. One of the most popular flies used in these waters is a small black or olive nymph. A major benefit of coming to stay and fish at Dunmore is that since all the fishing is literally on your doorstep you have heaps of time to experiment with fly patters and presentation techniques. The Iveys are not against lure fishing, either, so if you are keen for some spin action then tie on a small dark-coloured minnow, a bladed or red spinner and that will generally do the trick. If you want big fish though, you can't beat the fly. Flies just simply seem to work better and over a greater part of the season. Bait fishing is a "no-no" however. Dunmore is based on "Catch & Release", although guests are allowed to take one fish for an evening treat.
